Bid Manager - Bristol or Cardiff

Based in Bristol or Cardiff, the role covers South and South West England, Wales and Northern Ireland with travel required across the region.

Key Purpose to:

• Increase the success rate and reduce the cost of winning new work
• Identify key opportunities and strategic positioning activities
• Focus on improving people, process and systems for winning work
• Leadership of selected UK bids
• Role model for best practice

Key Responsibilities

Bid Strategy
• Develop and lead winning bid strategy
• Keep abreast/ahead of technical and commercial procurement trends

Bid Production
• Manage production of winning bid documentation and presentations
• Write and edit bid documentation and review final drafts for accuracy and on-point messaging
• Review alignment between technical and commercial aspects in bids
• Assist in the preparation of interviews and supporting documentation

Operational Best Practice
• Identify and embed best bid practice strategy, process, management and production
• Continually develop best process to win a higher proportion of the selected bids
• Develop go/no go process
• Identify, collate, analyse and share lessons learnt from wins and unsuccessful bids
• Identify and share technical and operational innovations and commercial tactics to win work
• Continually improve existing processes that contribute to winning work

Market Intelligence
• Collect, share and use intelligence to gain competitive advantage
• Keep abreast of relevant legislative changes that might impact bid content
• Review competitive Bids where possible and feedback for competitive advantage
• Collate feedback from successful / unsuccessful bids by engaging directly with clients

Collaboration, BD & Training
• Engage with technical staff, BD & marketing to provide bid advice, training & mentoring
• Work collaboratively across the business to create and deliver best bid teams
• Work with BD to network with existing and new client contacts, other consultants and
contractors to gather intelligence and position the firm for potential opportunities
• Participate in relationship management and client plans for key clients
• Attend networking events for promotion and to gather intelligence

Experience required

• Degree-level qualification
• Experience of leading and working in multi-party bid teams
• Experience of writing and editing technical text
• Experience and knowledge of one or more Sectors (construction, energy, water and/or
transport) and key players
• Knowledge of procurement trends for publicly-funded and/or major projects
• Creative and innovative approach
• Coaching and mentoring experience
• Team and collaborative approach
• Competitive drive and dedication to achieve challenging deadlines.
